They say “It is not how you start that counts, it is how you finish.”. We are so often taught about how important it is to finish things that you start. There have been books written about the value and importance of finishing. But what about starting? How often do we find ourselves saying things like “How do I start” or “Where do I even begin”? We can sometimes get so wrapped up in the possible complexity of something that we actually scare ourselves out of even starting.
The best way to start is by making a few small and simple changes with what you have in front of you. If, for example, you are wanting to start living a healthier lifestyle, start by making some small changes to your diet, or by trying to implement a better sleep schedule, or possibly taking up a new fitness hobby but only take on as many changes as you can maintain. There is no value in completely overhauling your diet, starting a fitness regime and setting your alarm earlier if you cannot maintain it all. It is better to make a few small changes and build onto it over time as opposed to trying to start by changing everything together.
Health is not a destination, it is the journey you take through life. Making a few small changes today begins to make your journey a bit better, a few more changes next week and the journey gets better still. Remember that Rome was not built in a day.
